1) How do the four main characters – Vincent, his brother Anton, Irene, and Jerome – regard themselves in respect to the nature of their birth (whether it was “engineered” or not)? How do they view their own possibilities, limits, etc.?
2) How do others relate to them with their birth in mind?
3) How do others evaluate their successes and failures through their genes?
4) Is the world of Gattaca particularly democratic? Is it one that apparently emphasizes individual rights and equality? Is there a relationship between the genetic science they live with and their politics, so far as they are revealed in the film?
5) Is there such a clear distinction between persons and things in the world of the film?
