1. How does the film portray the transformation of a small-time criminal into one of the leaders of a political rebellion? What were the sources and mechanisms of that transformation?

2. How is the city of Algiers organized and how does that organization in ways determine both the rebellion and measures taken in opposition to it?

3. From where does the violence in general originate? What is its source?

4. By what manner does the violence of both the insurgency and counter-insurgency escalate? What prompts this escalation? Is responsibility for it easy to assign?

5. How, more particularly, are acts of terrorism justified by various characters in the film, and are those justifications convincing given the portrayal of those acts in the film?

6. How is legality viewed by the various participants in the struggle?

7. How does the film portray the larger goals of both the rebellion and the opposition to it?

8. While clearly not exactly neutral in respect to the events it portrays, is The Battle of Algiers fair enough to all sides to avoid being properly labeled propaganda?
